Roof leadwork and lead flashing repairs
Leadwork is often found where a roof meets a wall, chimney or another roof slope. These are important junctions: water must be directed away from the building while the different materials move. We accept roof leadwork enquiries on the Isle of Wight, from defective flashings to planned replacement details.
Assessing existing lead flashing
A leak around a lead flashing may result from a split, a poor joint, failed fixing or an issue with the adjoining masonry or roof covering. Applying a surface sealant may conceal the symptom without addressing the cause. We consider the detail as a whole before discussing whether repair or replacement is appropriate.
Specifying leadwork repairs and replacement
Lead details need suitable support, dimensions, fixings and provision for movement. The proposed method should be appropriate to the location and exposure. The specification also needs to take account of the substrate and the condition of the surrounding tiles or slates, because sound leadwork cannot compensate for defective adjoining construction.
Leadwork for chimneys, valleys and abutments
Chimney flashings and wall abutments require different detailing from a valley that carries water between roof slopes. Tell us where the issue is located and whether water enters during particular weather conditions. Where more than one roof component is involved, the quotation can explain the coordinated repair.

Safe access often forms a significant part of high-level leadwork. We discuss that access and the extent of the work before starting. Please include your postcode and any history of previous repairs. If your property has heritage protections, tell us at the outset so that material choices and permissions can be considered.
